Bias in apparent dispersion measure due to de-magnification of plasma lensing on background radio sources

چکیده

The effect of ionized gas on the propagation radio signals is known as plasma lensing. Unlike gravitational lensing, lensing causes both magnification and strong de-magnification effects to background sources. We study cross section for two density profiles, Gaussian power-law models. In general, increases with gradient. Radio sources can be used measure free electron along line sight. However, an underestimate density. Such a bias density, up $\sim 15\%$ in high region. There large probability that clumps will missed due this bias. also change luminosity function number low ends overestimated biasing effect.

Sources of the Radio Background Considered

We investigate different scenarios for the origin of the extragalactic radio background. The surface brightness of the background, as reported by the Absolute Radiometer for Cosmology, Astrophysics, and Diffuse Emission 2 (ARCADE 2) collaboration, is several times higher than that which would result from currently observed radio sources. We consider contributions to the background from diffuse ...

Assessment of dose due to natural radio-nuclides in vegetables of high background radiation area in south-eastern part of Bangladesh

Background: The aims of the study are to determine the radioactivity concentrations of 226Ra, 238U, 232Th and 40K in vegetables of a recently found high background radiation area of south-eastern part of Bangladesh and to detect the radiological risks to human from intake of these vegetables. Materials and Method: 10 plant samples were collected randomly from different locations of the study ar...

Radio Scintillation Due to Discontinuities in the Interstellar Plasma Density

We develop the theory of interstellar scintillation as caused by an irregular plasma having a power-law spatial density spectrum with a spectral exponent of β = 4 corresponding to a medium with abrupt changes in its density. An “outer scale” is included in the model representing the typical scale over which the density of the medium remains uniform. Such a spectrum could be used to model plasma...

Gravitational Lensing Magnification without Multiple Imaging

Gravitational lensing can amplify the apparent brightness of distant sources. For most lensing geometries, images that are significantly magnified are part of multiply-imaged systems, but that need not always be the case. We consider the extent to which lensing can produce large magnifications without creating more than one detectable image. One possibility is that lensing produces a single ima...

QSO lensing magnification associated with galaxy groups

We simulated both the matter and light (galaxy) distributions in a wedge of the universe and calculated the gravitational lensing magnification caused by the mass along the line of sight of galaxies and galaxy groups identified in sky surveys. A large volume redshift cone containing cold dark matter particles mimics the expected cosmological matter distribution in a flat universe with low matte...
